The clear blue skies allow for beautiful morning and evening lighting. The pan, for the most part, remains bone dry throughout the days. However, during a good rainy season, this area is filled with photo opportunities. This opportunity draws out many people to come to see this amazing site. The reflection of the desert dunes in the water is amazing. This “Lake” can last up to a year.
There are a number of specific attractions to explore throughout Sossusvlei. The best time to see Sossusvlei is close to sunrise and sunset. All the amazing colors that reflect from the sky to the dunes, as well as the shadows, make these the best times to visit for amazing photo opportunities.
See Nature’s Wonders
Climb up Big Mama, which will allow you to see Naravlei, which is known for its plants that grow large melons that are cucumbers. And, the Cessna Pan is to the east, the rocks of Witberg are great for adventurers that love to climb. And, many bird species as well as the camelthorn tree dead or alive that captivates just about every photographer that visits.
This seems like a dessert that wouldn’t have anything living in it. But, it does, tucked beneath the sand is a whole other ecosystem as well. If you look closely, you will most likely see some evidence of this. Standing at the base of the dune gives you a sense of just how small people are against nature.
